Account on the process of preparing the primary school mathematics collection
Script
Before
script writing started, the subjects and titles were determined in 6 sessions.
The scientific experts provided each part’s scientific subjects according to the
results and gave them to the script writer. Each program’ script was 2 to 4
times rewritten by the script writer. This process started in December, 2002 and
ended in March 2002.
Story board
Each episode's script was analyzed by the
director, the graphist and the animator. So a separate story board was prepared
for each of them, in which the movements and their times, and each program’s
graphical texture was carefully defined. This process started in March, 2002 and
finished in April, 2002.
Scheduling
As the project budget was provided in the
last days of the Iranian year and the coming vacations, executing the three and
two-dimensional animations, the graphical ideas and the mixed plans was
scheduled to start on March 26th and end on June, 26th.
There was a schedule for each week according to the number of programs and
plans, and at the end of the week the progress would be compared with the
schedule. The project time was short and it made working difficult, so 12 hours
of daily work was needed, which sometimes included the holydays.
Animation making
Before starting to make the program's plans,
a new cover was made for the animation characters in order to give them more
movement capabilities. In the last series the time of saying the words and
sentences was fixed when forming the animation characters, lips according to the
script. In this method the speech and the movements of the lips didn’t exactly
match, and a lot of time was wasted trying to match them. In the new series
besides speech scheduling, the whole script was once recorded by computer and
the lips, movements were done according to the sounds when designing the
movements. Though it took a lot more time, the result was great. The grouped
tried their best to have variety in the animations in spite of lack of time. So
a separate setting and graphic method was designed for each program and none of
the movements or models were repeated, and we tried to have one or two
film-animation mixed plans in each part. This was also done simultaneously with
the other activities since March till July.
Film shooting
It
started since December when the general idea of the script was known. The needed
scenes were taken as the group traveled to different part of Iran for other
projects. This process finished in June. The scenes were taken in Karaj,
Qazvin,Khomein, Qom, Abadan, Mashad, some northern cities, Haraz, Firoozkooh,
Kan, and places like Payam airport, the meteorology centre and ...
Archives scenes
The group believed in using new and
beautiful plans, and tried their best to have such plans as far as possible, but
in some cases when the subject called foe it a few archives plans were used,
like the ones of the pole and its animals, sea animals and some plans of galaxys
and the solar system.
Editing
When each program’s animations were made,
they were separately edited and changed if needed. The general editing started
in May and finished in July.
Sound mixing
As mentioned before, matching the lip
movements of the characters with the speech was done quite carefully. The whole
script was recorded in 4 sessions and then matched with the movements by
computer.
Sound editing
The sound editing which had started with
editing different parts of the program, completed in this stage.
Music
When each program was ready, it was given to
the musician. Composing music for all parts of the program took almost one
month.
Songs
When the music was being composed, 2 songs
were decided to be composed for the beginning and ending of each part. The songs
were composed but there was not enough time to perform them with the same
quality as the other parts, so they were omitted and the music was used for the
beginning and ending.
Mixing
When the music was ready, the whole project
was mixed in 4 days.
Final evaluating
As the scientific experts’ ideas were
carefully regarded in writting the script and making the programs, and one of
the experts was present at film shootings, and also there was a close
cooperation between the group and the experts when making the animations, this
process was done in a short time with no big problem. Each part was checked by
the experts before sound mixing and the whole project was observed again after
the technical process. There were only a few points which were taken care of
easily, and the 13 episodes were handed in August, 2003.
